12–13, 19–20 October 2024. International Conference on Architecture between autonomy and engagement.
Should a building be a world onto itself? Or should it relate to its context? Do the best buildings achieve both: create their own order and language while also addressing and even shaping their environment?
Following the International Conferences on Architectural Criticism (2021), on Architectural Quality (2022), and on Architecture as Built Criticism (2023), the 2024 conference seeks papers that show how realized buildings stand in the autonomy and engagement debate.
Abstracts : Abstracts (max. 500 words) should propose one case study that has been visited by the author and should be submitted via https://cicarchitecture.org/conference2024/
Conference : The selection to the conference is in two stages: first, acceptance of abstracts; second, development of abstracts into draft papers. Based on these, authors will be invited to one of the four sessions together with the keynote lecturers of the online conference 12–13, 19–20 October 2024, chaired by Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Porto Alegre, Brazil, and Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie (UPM), São Paulo, Brazil. The online format of the four-session conference allows for active debate between the audience and lecturers. Presentations are succinct to allow for ample discussion time. Besides the four keynotes, there will be up to 16 short papers. The conference will be recorded and placed on YouTube. The conference language will be English.
Attendance is open and free of charge.
