Phase One of the Greater Sentosa Masterplan commenced last week, marking a significant milestone in one of Asia’s most ambitious regeneration and eco-tourism projects. The major development will transform Sentosa and Pulau Brani into a world-class leisure and tourism destination in Singapore.
WilkinsonEyre, working alongside Grant Associates, Arup and Atelier Ten, as well as a wider team of consultants, has been developing the ambitious masterplan since 2017. First unveiled in 2019, the vision has been continuously refined to ensure the destination achieves world-class environmental and design standards.
The masterplan integrates the two islands of Sentosa and Brani into a prime leisure and eco-tourism resort set within the island’s tropical landscapes, restored habitats and biodiverse ecology. These biodiverse environments, including restored coastal coral reefs, will form the setting for a range of world class attractions, leisure destinations, hotels, transport infrastructure and commercial developments whilst celebrating the island’s existing natural assets such as their beachfronts and ridgelines. The masterplan sets out an ambitious sustainability agenda, including a commitment to carbon neutrality by 2030, restoration and improvement to existing biodiversity, and re-greening existing industrial port areas, setting new benchmarks for Singapore’s leisure and attractions industry.
Phase One, which will start to shift the project from a strategic masterplan into the development and delivery phase will include key mobility infrastructure, public realm and coastal improvements including:

‘Island Heart’ - a new lifestyle and hospitality district and transport hub that forms the heart of the Greater Sentosa Master Plan connecting the two islands of Sentosa and Brani

A new people mover system, creating an experience led-mobility system and providing seamless connectivity across the islands

Rejuvenation of beaches and shorelines including coastal protection measures to safeguard against rising sea levels and climate risks.

New destination attraction atop Mount Imbiah, connecting visitors to the past and nature via heritage buildings and restored nature trails and offering incredible views across Sentosa and Singapore
